Work in Canada

If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, you must have a work permit or an authorization to work to be employed in Canada under either of the following programs: ​

  1. the Temporary Foreign Worker Program

    • A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is required for employers to hire foreign workers to fill temporary labour and skill shortages.
       

  2. the International Mobility Program (IMP) ​

    • The IMP lets employers hire temporary workers without an LMIA.
