If you are an employer who wants to offer a permanent job to a foreign worker so they can immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker, you may need to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) through Employment and Social Development Canada/Service Canada. ​

 

A positive LMIA or confirmation letter will show that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian worker or permanent resident is available to do the job. Employers must meet specific requirements to hire foreign workers and uphold the conditions. ​
